    A passion for justice.Jim Vernon - 2017 - Philosophy and Social Criticism 43 (2):187-207.
In this article, I explicate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s account of emancipatory history and activism by examining the influence of G. W. F. Hegel’s account of world-historical individuals on his thought. Both thinkers, I argue, affirm that history’s spiritual destiny works through individuals who are driven by the contingencies of their subjective character and given situation to undertake particular actions, and yet who nevertheless freely and decisively break the new from the old by forsaking subjective satisfaction to spur events forward (...)

What kind of person could be a torturer?John P. Reeder Jr - 2010 - Journal of Religious Ethics 38 (1):67-92.
What kind of persons could engage in political torture? Not only the morally impaired who lack empathy or compassion, or even the merely obedient, but also the righteous who struggle with conscience, and the realists who set morality aside.

Charitable organisations and the rescue principle.John M. Whelan Jr - 2004 - Critical Review of International Social and Political Philosophy 7 (3):52-66.
Despite what Peter Singer and Peter Unger believe, no one violates the ‘rescue principle’ when she makes a frivolous purchase instead of giving to a charity like UNICEF. Nor does any one violate a collective action version of the rescue principle when she makes a frivolous purchase instead of giving to a charity. Garrett Cullity is also mistaken in believing that ‘the transitivity of wrongness’ can be used to reach the conclusion that a failure to give to charity is wrong (...)

Can the λ model benefit from understanding human adaptation in weightlessness(and vice versa)?P. Vernon McDonald - 1995 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 18 (4):768-768.
Parameters of the lambda model seem tightly linked to certain characteristics of human performance influenced by weightlessness. This commentary suggests that there is a valuable opportunity to probe the lambda model using the changed environment experienced during space flight. The likely benefits are a better model and a better understanding ofthe consequences of weightlessness for human performance.

The Blessings of Liberty: Human Rights and Religious Freedom in the Western Legal Tradition.John Witte Jr & John Witte - 2021 - Cambridge University Press.
Leading legal scholar John Witte, Jr. explores the role religion played in the development of rights in the Western legal tradition and traces the complex interplay between human rights and religious freedom norms in modern domestic and international law. He examines how US courts are moving towards greater religious freedom, while recent decisions of the pan-European courts in Strasbourg and Luxembourg have harmed new religious minorities and threatened old religious traditions in Europe. Witte argues that the robust promotion and protection (...)

    The Ethical Role of the Impartial Observer.Vernon J. Bourke - 1978 - Journal of Religious Ethics 6 (2):279 - 292.
The "observer" approach is investigated as a device for developing ethical theory, not for its use in private moral decision-making. Earlier discussions by Firth, Brandt, Harrison and Aiken of the impartial spectator are related to eighteenth-century British and German ethics using this theme, in order to uncover the meanings of the observer theory. Advantages and disadvantages of this approach to ethics are then examined, and the conclusion is that it does not provide a complete basis for ethical discourse but is (...)

Book Review on Slavoj Zizek’s Like a Thief in Broad Daylight: Power in the Era of Post-human Capitalism. [REVIEW]RubenObrar Balotol Jr - 2023 - International Journal of Žižek Studies 17 (1).
Slavoj Žižek is an extremely interesting philosopher of our time who translated the philosophy of Hegel, Marx and the psychology of Lacan into a formidable scholarship and activism. Importantly, his philosophy participates in Alain Badiou’s conviction that the function of philosophy is to corrupt the youth, to alienate them from the hegemonic ideologico-political order, to spread radical doubts, and enable them to think unconventionally, boldly think dangerously.
